Thompsons Point Rules
For much of its history, Thompson’s Point wasn’t a live entertainment venue. This helps to explain why some rules it expects patrons to follow might come across as a bit unorthodox.
When you buy tickets to a Thompson’s Point show, you and your party won’t be assigned any specific permanent seats. You instead choose a general area from which to watch the show. In many instances, you would then bring your own seating on the day.
Still, there are rules about exactly which kinds of seating you can bring. Here is a closer look at the rules that patrons at Thompson’s Point must heed…
Chairs and blankets
For most shows, patrons can bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. At the same time, the venue is keen to ensure clear sight lines for all guests.
Hence, any chair you bring must be a low ‘beach style’ chair with a seat no higher than nine inches off the ground.
When you arrive at the venue, make sure you place the chair behind the designated line on the lawn. This line’s exact location will depend on the specific show.
Also, keep in mind that the chair section is extremely limited in size. For this reason, you are urged to arrive early to secure a spot. Once the chair section has been filled, no more chairs will be allowed inside.
The venue’s security staff are entitled to redirect the placement of guests’ chairs and blankets to ensure patrons’ comfort and safety.
Accessibility
If you have any disability that impairs your mobility, you can rest assured that the venue’s entrance is at street level. There is no need to traverse any steps or ramps to manoeuvre in and out of Thompson’s Point entrances.
Prohibited items
Will you be bringing any bags with you? If so, when you arrive at the venue, staff will check the bags to make sure they don’t contain any prohibited items.
So, what items does Thompson’s Point ban you from taking in? The list includes:
- » Pets
- » Cans or glass bottles
- » Alcoholic beverages
- » Illegal or illicit substances (no matter what type they are)
- » Weapons (including ninja stars)
- » Fireworks
- » Umbrellas
- » Glow sticks or wands
- » Laser pointers
You can see the full list of prohibited items on the Thompson’s Point website.
Ideally, you should have as little as possible in your bag – or avoid bringing any bags at all, if practically possible. That way, there will be less for the staff to check, ensuring you can get into the venue more quickly.
The staff are also entitled to deny you entry if you react negatively to them searching your bags. So, respect the fact that they do it for an important reason – to keep the event safe and awesome for everyone there.
Outside food and beverages
As mentioned above, you are not permitted to bring in alcoholic beverages bought outside the venue. Conversely, bottled water from outside is allowed – albeit just one bottle per patron. Each bottle must also be sealed.
The rules also let you use small soft-sided coolers to bring in food bought outside the venue.
Cancellations and postponements
As all shows are rain or shine, it’s important to check the weather forecast before you head out to Thompson’s Point. Plan accordingly, such as by taking drinking water with you if hot weather is expected or layering up if cold weather is on the way.
There are still scenarios where the show might be cancelled or postponed – due to performer illness, for example. If an event you have booked for is cancelled or postponed, you will be entitled to a refund. However, no refunds are available in any other circumstances.
Other rules and policies
Set to attend a State Theatre Summer Concert Series show at Thompson’s Point? If you have kids aged three or under, you can take them along with you for free. Each kid above the age of three will need their own ticket.
When buying from onsite concessions stands, you can pay with cash or a credit or debit card. The digital wallet services Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay are also accepted. Onsite ATMs are available if you need to fetch cash from your bank account.
Thompson’s Point is a no-smoking venue. However, be warned that if you leave the show early (for whatever reason), you will not be allowed to re-enter. So, taking a temporary ‘cigarette break’ during the show is not an option.
